About Jackie Andrade

Jackie Andrade is a drawing major moving towards becoming an art therapist. She mainly does ink drawings that are patterned and heavily detailed. After Jackie earns her bachelors she plans to pursue masters degree in Art therapy. Jackie hopes to become a therapist and help people connect with themselves.

Statement

Art is a therapeutic experience. My ink drawings envelope a feeling of pure relaxation and relief through intricate patterns that I create and pair with items found in nature. I want the viewer to feel as if they are in a meditative state when viewing my drawings, because I enter this mentality when I draw. I work in this manner to ground my anxiety. Throughout the majority of my life I have been in therapy, it has always been a part of who I am; in turn I want to use those experiences to one day relate with my patients.

Digging into my process is an easy one. I draw an original sketch of the idea but then my ideas move depending on how I am feeling that day. I find immense tranquility while I’m crosshatching and filling in tiny circles, or when I am move my way through drawing concentric shapes of mushrooms; because I know that would put my mind at ease. I come to my work with intention of a peaceful process, this is what art should feel like.
