About Emily Cole Bonney
Emily Bonney is an interdisciplinary artist who uses patterns that combine organic shapes to represent health and healing. Graduating from UMass Dartmouth with a dual degree in art and psychology, Emily intends to work as an art therapist and use artwork as a healing method.
I have always been drawn to works of art that feel as though they are moving on the wall. In turn, this has inspired my own pieces. I am also interested in the fragility of the brain and the way auras and migraines affect this powerful yet vulnerable organ. Painting my visual auras on muslin has revealed for me a new form of moving artwork. I combine sculpture and painting to create kinetic pieces that symbolize the auras of the mind. Although the paint itself doesn’t move, the fabric reacts to the world around it and shifts with the wind and air. Painting these pieces is also heavily meditative to me and I feel like I’m experiencing the piece as a whole while creating it. The work embodies my process and creates a new space for the viewer to explore.
