About Tyler Nelson

Hi, I am Tyler and I grew up in Fall River MA, currently living in Westport MA. I hope to eventually go to graduate school with the intention of teaching art and working as an artist. I primarily oil paint but I also work in charcoal and graphite in drawings. The subject matters I enjoy painting the most generally from life, especially people.

Statement

The goal of my art is to be visually interesting and not much else. I look for interesting moments in figurative work and everyday objects. I want to bring them together in one piece whether it is grounded in reality or not. It does not matter if multiple figures were painted together originally or not to me it is about the cohesion of the figures or objects as a whole. Colors and form are my primary focus in all the work I produce. Form and color of objects and people are important to me because they are what compose the world in front of us.

My work can be an examination of everyday objects, people, and spaces to create a visually interesting space on canvas by altering colors, space, and textures to enhance it. Using thick and thin paint to create visual contrast between texture and colors. When a space, object or person draws my attention I want to take hold of that within a space on my canvas and to use it to hold the attention of my viewer within my entire painting.
