About Shaylin McDavitt

Shaylin McDavitt is a graphic designer based in North Attleboro, Massachusetts. She has a wide range of passions in her field, including typography, UX/UI, branding, silkscreening, and front-end coding. She has proficient knowledge in the coding languages HTML and CSS, and a strong understanding of Java. Shaylin loves integrating digital and physical formats to create a cohesive branding and designs. She will be graduating with a BFA in Graphic Design and a minor in Computer Science from the College of Visual and Performing Arts at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.

Statement

Shaylin has been a Boston sports fanatic for as long as she can remember, growing up less than 10 miles from the home of the Patriots, Gillette Stadium, and only a train away from Boston made it easy to be involved. She brought together her love for UX/UI, branding, Silkscreen printing, and Boston Sports to create and design a company, its webpage, and its products. This inspired her to create Boston Uncommon, a unique Boston sportswear brand. Unlike the other Boston Sports apparel brands out there, Boston Uncommon puts a focus on its user experience. It takes away the overwhelming feelings experienced when visiting a visually busy webpage and simplifies it to focus on ease of use. With simple navigation, responsiveness, and proper layouts, bright colorful elements shine through, without distractions. This all creates a feeling of trust in the site’s capabilities and puts the user at the forefront of the design. Boston Uncommon creates “uncommon” t-shirts, stickers, and sweatshirts with designs that reflect each of the primary four Boston sports teams. The branding places an emphasis on the designs of the apparel, letting the colors of the team shine through and creating a simplistic and responsive user experience throughout the website.
