For The Sake of Me
Statement
For the Sake of Me is a part of an ongoing series of work that provides an insight into the immigrant experience in America and the pressures that many 1st and 2nd generation immigrant students face while pursuing higher education. These interviews show some experiences of the 6 immigrants I had the honor of interviewing in person and over Zoom. For the Sake of Me comes as recognition and appreciation for myself and those who have experienced a similar journey while pursuing higher education. For 1st and 2nd generation immigrant students who carry the pressures of being the pride of the family and achieving many firsts while also maintaining their own sense of self. For immigrants that struggle with the demands of an individualistic American society and the separation from their community and family. For immigrant parents raising their children in an unfamiliar culture and language.
