Art + Design: Animation + Game Arts
About Jace Gagne
Jace is an AGA student interested in exploring creative possibilities of worldbuilding. With a large focus on ancient mythos, folklore, and religious tales, they examine the parallels between such stories, settings, and themes and tie them together to create something completely new. Jace has spent four years at Umass Dartmouth developing their character design and worldbuilding skills, exploring the concepts of liminal spaces around the campus, and experimenting in the performing arts with the 20Cent Fiction theater company and Mental Note A capella.
Statement
My work focuses largely on character design and creation. The project itself contains a small portion of the work I have put into a larger personal project known as “A Rising Hell,” a story centered around twins Simon and Tracy and their grandfather, Walter. The trio hunts malicious demons and ghost that plague their hometown and, after a sudden spike of cases, come to find the influx of hellspawn is the result of an underground cult attempting to, quite literally, raise hell on earth, The project I have submitted is intended to be a journal kept by the main trio, a documentation of all the different types of creatures they’ve encountered along the way, created by the three of them. This is supposed to serve as a way to explain and showcase different characters from the same story, as well as give a glimpse into how Tracy, Simon, and Walter interact and work with each other.
