Art + Design: Interior Architecture + Design
About Axel Jeremie
Hi, my name is Axel Jeremie and I studied Interior Architecture and Design here at UMass Dartmouth. I was formerly an English major with a passion for creativity and driving for equity in our society. I switched over to Interior design my first semester of sophomore year when I saw that I could craft creative interiors that also function to help other people. Outside of school I enjoy playing video games and all forms of nerdy media as well as longboarding.
Statement
My senior thesis, On the Mend is a space where former drug addicts come together, live, and recover. Through a series of research and a paper that I’ve written I have found that many addicts do not have homes which leads to them making worse decisions in the outside world, landing them in jail. In order to counteract these problems as well as provide a space to heal On the Mend will using a housing first model to give people who have been struggling with addictions the opportunity to be safe in a home of their own where they and their peers can reintegrate into their community and society as a whole. My space will feature a community facing gift show where all products are made by those living at On the Mend. Along with this interior comfort and accessible design will be a main focus of the space.
