Art + Design: Interior Architecture + Design
About Xoey Lee
Hey there! I’m Xoey, a graduating senior in the Interior Architecture and Design program here at UMass Dartmouth. There is no doubt that being a part of the IAD community has played a major role in my growth as a designer; between the connections I’ve made here and the faculty that have supported me, I’ve attained a level of confidence in my work that would have seemed like a dream four years ago.
Statement
For my senior thesis, I chose to design a recovery center for adolescents with eating disorders. Offering both inpatient and outpatient services, this facility is designed with hospitality at its core to reduce the fear and stigma surrounding health care facilities. I am very passionate about promoting healthy relationships with diet and body image, something that individuals of every walk of life might struggle with. Throughout my adolescence and early adulthood, I’ve witnessed a trend of normalizing unhealthy and disordered eating habits. My goal through my thesis is to dismantle that mindset and lead individuals into an improved quality of life – one that isn’t held down by their disorder.
As the health care industry begins to evolve with a more comforting atmosphere, I hope to see an increase in accessibility to mental health resources, for every person to feel comfortable seeking treatment, and for growing generations to help support the wellness of one another.
