About Mason Roger Leonard

Mason grew up in the rural town of Langdon, NH. Having no idea what he wanted to do, he decided to major in fashion design in college merely based on the fact he liked to go to the mall and buy clothes. Not knowing how to sew whatsoever upon entering college, Mason persevered and feels it was “the happiest, most oblivious decision he has ever made.” He loves nature, and cares deeply for the environment around him. When not designing, he spends time hanging out with his friends, exploring hiking trails around Massachusetts, and finding inspiration for his next collection. After graduation, he will be working for Accurate Services Inc. in Fall River, MA.

Statement

Mason naturally enjoys incorporating surface design into his work. He appreciates working with different textiles, and using fabric manipulation techniques that complement the fabrics he uses. Having a love for nature and the environment, and being globally aware of climate change, he embeds sustainable solutions into his work religiously. His keen sense of creativity and ambition makes him a versatile designer, making clothes for every gender, age, and body type. While he has yet to settle into a niche within the fashion industry, he thoroughly enjoys the experimentational phase of making clothes, through 3D research of draping fabric on the mannequin, to gluing collage images of his inspiration to corquis in his research notebook.

Collection Mood Board, 2021, An assortment of images that provide the “mood” of the collection and a visual of the inspiration.
Striped Terry Dress, 2021, A cocktail dress made of strips of knit french terry sewn together. The scrunched effect is created by elongating the sleeves.
3-piece Street Look, 2021, A loose, fine-tailored wool jacket with boned strapless top. Lux blue pleated fabric with welt pockets create the pants.
Layered, Shirred Dress, 2021, Cut into pieces, this dress was recreated on arbitrary lines with a shirring foot to create gathers. Raw seams are on the outside to accentuate the visual.
Cowl Top with Skirt, 2021, The cowl sleeves and neck create a different interpretation of layers. Finished with contoured cuffs and gold buttons. The fitted pencil skirt gives an elevated business feel.
Striped Pants with Sheer Blouse, 2021, This sheer top mimics the floor-length dress with its outward, shirred seams. The pants were cut into strips similar to the Striped Terry Dress. Invisible zippers are also placed in the front of the pants.
Two-Toned Shirred Dress, 2021, Made from French terry, the dress was cut along a line and shirred along the seam. Elongated sleeves create a scrunched effect.
Shirred Legs Jumpsuit, 2021, A fitted jumpsuit with shirred pantlegs to create visual layering. The taupe turtleneck has scrunched sleeves from elongating them and creating more layered visual effects.
Notebook Process, 2021, An example of the collaging that takes place during inspiration research. Images are placed together, and even on croquis to create texture, silhouette, and fabrication.
Notebook Process #2, 2021, A notebook example of visual imagery that is generated through research. Fabric Manipulation is a technique used to create visual texture on garments.
Collection Target Board, 2021, An assortment of images and visuals to create a sense of the particular type of person the collection is targeting, and who they are as people.
