About Corey Russ

Corey Russ is an artist and designer from Somerset, Massachusetts. He is working on finishing his BA in Graphic Design at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and is set to graduate this spring. He is disciplined in several areas of visual art such as design, drawing, branding, and photography. Russ’ influences mostly come from music and the artwork that his friends also create. Corey also puts much of his time into fashion design, as seen here, as well as artwork and commissions for the underground music industry.

Statement

My work with my clothing brand is highly influenced by the punk rock and skateboarding subcultures that have been celebrated (and condemned) over the past number of decades. Other influences for this brand include metal, hip hop, and political subcultures as well. The brand’s purpose is to try to bring these subcultures together, in a way that unites them all. More specifically, the designs on the clothing itself are influenced by the above cultures and they all aim to get a reaction out of people. Each design is interpretive for the viewer, as they can figure out for themselves what the meaning behind the artwork on the clothes. Meaning and depth behind my work is important to me, and there are few better places to put deep and questioning designs on clothes. I feel as that many streetwear brands today have abandoned that idea, and I am finally bringing it back.
