Art + Design: Graphic Design
About Armani Marquez-Chaves
Armani Marquez-Chaves is a graphic designer from Webster, Massachusetts. He believes that design is a powerful tool that can be used to form or reinforce concepts that tell a story. Armani has had a passion for graphic design since his high school vocational training in which he learned the process of design to print firsthand. He believes that it is an “invisible art” in which most design is not initially noticed until someone focuses upon it and begins seeing it everywhere in their everyday lives. Design can influence, change, and adapt to any society or individual’s goals and change behaviors without the user noticing any significant change. Armani’s process is to conceptualize through sketching, collect data revolving around the goals of the design to be put in place, and create pieces that are as effective as they are attractive to both the intended and unintentional audiences. Armani Marquez-Chaves will receive his degree in Graphic Design accompanied with a minor in Game Design in May of 2021.
Statement
The topic selected for this exhibition is the concept revolving around how the interactions and events in our lives form us into unique individuals. Given the most recent world events that have occurred in the past year alone, I believe it is important to reflect on ourselves to be able to progress as individuals and as a society as a whole. To look at our own history critically and recognize that there are moments that we may or may not remember that form us and force us to learn from our mistakes and revel in our successes.
The website will be a functional interactive platform in which individuals may share moments of their lives that they believe shaped them into who they are and what they believe. I am using my own personal experiences as a starting point for others to include themselves in this dialogue, but with the caveat that the majority of the stories being shared of mine are not from my own mouth. The site that is showcased shall give the audience a sense of connection with strangers through the form of storytelling and having relatable content shared regardless of intentional or not. There shall also be a “beginners section” that will inform the user of the uses and general idea of how the site is used and shared.
