Counseling Sequence
Students interested in careers in counseling may elect to take a three-course counseling sequence which introduces students to some of the applied aspects of psychology. More information can be found in the left-hand margin tab for the Pre-Professional Certificate in Mental Health, which is obtained by completing all three courses.
- PSY 377 Counseling I presents various theoretical approaches to counseling and prepares students with basic practical skills.
- PSY 407 Counseling II is a continuation of Psy 377. It includes supervised practicum experiences.
- PSY 417 Counseling III provides a one-day a week work experience in human service agencies.
Students may take one, two, or all three courses in this sequence, but courses must be completed in order. We recommend that students who anticipate taking two or three of these courses begin the program by taking Psy 377 in the second semester of their junior year.
