Undergraduate Programs
The department offers a Bachelor of Arts degree in Portuguese, as well as a Portuguese minor (see below for specific degree requirements). In addition to required and elective courses within the department, students are encouraged to take advantage of course offerings related to the Portuguese-speaking world in the departments of Art History, History, Political Science, and Sociology/Anthropology. Furthermore, the Helio and Amelia Pedroso/Luso-American Foundation Endowed Chair in Portuguese Studies, created in 2001, allows the Department of Portuguese to invite distinguished visiting professors from around the world to teach and do research at UMass Dartmouth.

Post-Baccalaureate Initial Certificate for Teaching Portuguese
The Portuguese department participates in UMass Dartmouth’s programs to prepare teachers who are highly qualified, helping provide opportunities for students to receive both initial and professional licensure.
Minor in Portuguese
Students pursuing a minor in Portuguese develop a strong foundation in the language and receive a thorough introduction to the cultures of the Portuguese-speaking world that will complement any major.
