Pledge to CIVILIZE IT

As a nation, we are polarized and divided. Now we must come together and seek a way forward. Can we see ourselves as members of one family? Can we seek to encounter and to grow? Can we identify common values? Can we listen to understand? Can we seek the truth together? Can we jointly come up with creative solutions to the problems that face our nation. We Can! Stop by the Center for Religious and Spiritual Life and participate in the I PLEDGE CIVILITY CAMPAIGN. Let it begin with you! Sign the pledge. Prayers for civility and prayers to overcome division are available for various denominations and traditions of faith at the Center. Chaplains are also available.

"A second-order correction method for loosely coupled discretizations applied to parabolic interface problems" - Abstract: Fluid-structure interaction (FSI) problems involve the study of how fluids and solid structures behave when they come into contact with each other. These problems are important in many engineering and scientific applications, such as aeronautics, aeroelasticity, aerodynamics, biomechanics, civil engineering, and mechanical engineering. We consider a parabolic interface problem, a simplified version of FSI, and construct a loosely coupled prediction-correction scheme based on the Robin splitting method analyzed in [J. Numer. Math., 31(1):59, 77, 2023]. We show that the errors of the correction step converge at O((Delta t)^2), under suitable convergence rate assumptions on the discrete time derivative of the prediction step, where Delta t stands for the time-step length. Numerical results are shown to support our analysis and the assumptions. Contact: zchen2@umassd.edu, vvarma@umassd.edu.
